SINGLE HANDED YACHT RACE
1972
(17 Jul 1972) The first three places in the Observer single handed Atlantic Yacht Race were won by Frenchmen. Alain Colas in Pen Duick IV, Vendredi 13 sailed by Jean-Yves Terlain and Cap 33 crewed by Jean-Marie Vidal. 4th place to British entrant, British Steel. The winner was over the line in record time of 20 days, beating the old yacht race record by 6 days, set up in 1968.
