Meet the Aldabra white-eye, a sharp-billed, yellow-faced, social forager 🪶 One of the few native birds in this region that is not extinct 💪 White-eyes have been spotted breeding on Assomption Island, making it a vital habitat for maintaining their population 🏝️ Their chatty song is described using “chew” noises: “tyee tyee TYOU tyee tyee TYOU tyee TYOU”… Translation: we must protect our important bird areas!🚨 Fun fact: the Aldabra white-eye is part of the Zosterops genus. A genus is a group of closely related species - for example, Homo is the genus that includes our species Homo sapiens and extinct relatives like Homo neanderthalensis.
