Day 3 in our Aldabra Christmas Series. Today’s animal is the Aldabra Banded Snail (Rhachistia aldabrae). 🏝️ It is endemic to the Aldabra Atoll (meaning this is the only place in the world it lives). 🌱 It is a herbivore that grazes on algae, making it a very important part of Aldabra’s food chain. 🌟It was thought to be extinct because of climate change (linked to declining rainfall) after none were reported between 1997 and August 2014. But, in 2014, a monitoring team from SIF identified a small living population on Malabar Island. Stay tuned for a new species tomorrow! 📸 Image credit: @evileyelander 🎶Song by @joe_samy_official / @s_chlochlo
