We just got back from Assomption Island. Today, Friends of Aldabra joined President Herminie’s delegation. We are grateful for the opportunity to see the island firsthand and believe it reflects a commitment toward transparency, though much remains to be done. We’ll share a full press release tomorrow, but for now: 🏗️ The scale of construction is confronting and disappointing. Too much happened without due process or environmental oversight. The recent stop notice is a crucial step to halt the damage. 👀 This visit helped us better understand the current state of things on the grounds. ❓ Questions still remain in regards to the future of Assomption and what the new government’s plans are. Friends of Aldabra looks forward to meaningful engagement and to understand and share these plans transparently with the public. This is a moment for Seychelles to change the narrative around Assomption: prioritizing transparency, community involvement, and protecting our heritage and dignity.
