Seychelles has proudly positioned itself as a leader in global conservation, even swapping debt for nature protection in an internationally celebrated move. This is marketed as a shining example of environmental stewardship. ⁠⁠But how do we reconcile this narrative with the reality on the ground? How is it that we’re selling off prime wetlands and vital ecosystems on Mahé, and even entire islands, for profit and luxury developments? 🏝️💰⁠⁠ When leaders champion conservation abroad yet ignore the voices of their own people at home, as seen with developments like Anse La Mouche, Cheval Blanc and now Aldabra and Assomption, how can this be justified? How can we fight to protect our natural heritage while this hypocrisy continues to undermine our efforts?
