Following our time at UNOC in Nice in June, we headed to the Seychelles to get working… (4/13)

Following our time at UNOC in Nice in June, we headed to the Seychelles to get working on the ground to continue raising awareness and ringing the alarm bells about Aldabra. Here are some of the highlights from our trip: 👂 Listening to every voice that matters. From fishermen and skippers who’ve visited Aldabra, to conservationists, young people, and even the lovely folks we met in local shops - everyone had stories to share. Speaking with people right up to ministerial level gave us such valuable perspectives on what’s really at stake. 🏝️ Being there changes everything. There’s something irreplaceable about working on-site. We’re running this campaign from abroad, but being present in the Seychelles reminded us why this fight matters so much. ⚡ Bringing fresh energy to the resistance. It felt brilliant to inject some momentum into the local efforts and connect with people who’ve been championing Aldabra’s protection. 🌱 Seeing first-hand the Seychellois momentum around conservation and inspiring conservation leadership among young Seychellois. The passion and dedication on the ground is truly inspiring. 🐚 Moving at the speed of trust. Every conversation was about building deeper relationships and understanding. Trust is the foundation of meaningful change. 🐢 Special tortoise encounters. We had some wonderful moments with some cute Aldabra tortoises around Mahé. These gentle giants touched our hearts. 🦇 And yes, we met some local bats too! The biodiversity here never ceases to amaze us. ❗UNFORTUNATELY our trip had a major lowlight 🥺: Construction is ongoing on Assomption without proper environmental oversight. Concerning reports included rumours of caves being cemented. 😭 We hope authorities will step in to protect Seychelles’ extraordinary natural heritage. 🙏 💚 Despite this, we remain energised and more committed than ever. The connections made will help drive the campaign forward with continued hope and gratitude. 🌊 #ProtectAldabra #SaveAldabra #Seychelles #ConservationWork #CommunityVoices #TogetherForNature
