The newspaper artist Marguerite Martyn drew herself into the sketch alongside Sandwina, for the St Louis Post-Dispatch of 4 June 1911. Sandwina was a leading figure in the circus performers' suffrage organisation, which links the strongwoman act directly to the women's political movement.
