“Friday morning, a heavy art car contingent motored in. Tom Kennedy had two shark cars: an '82 Sentra transformed by foam and silver paint, and a van with ten-foot shark fins . Kathleen Pearson's Love 23 car was a monument to plastic artifacts: plastic pretzels, bagels, pizzas, crustaceans, grapes, carrots, Disney figures, Mr. Peanut, starfish, and thousands of tiny debutantes. Harrod Blank, whose documentary Wild Wheels was about art cars, was there with his Ohmygawd VW bug (festooned with mail box, rubber chicken and fish, plastic bones, and a sound system that crowed). Art cars were constantly circling the camp, barking, snoring, or making announcements.”
