Goldmax plays gqom in the city that invented it. Gqom is the Durban mutation of South African house, the same lineage that produced kwaito and amapiano, built on Zulu rhythm rather than imported four-to-the-floor. It is one of the clearest cases of house being remade completely outside the cities that started it.
