Mandoza - Nkalakatha

The biggest kwaito record ever made and the first genuine cross-racial pop crossover in post-apartheid South Africa, it topped Black and white radio at the same time, sold around 350,000 copies, and was sung in English, Afrikaans, isiZulu and isiXhosa. Mandoza came from Soweto by way of the group Chiskop and died in 2016 at 38. The rhythm underneath the rasp is house, hardened and slowed.
