La tour Eiffel déplacée - Le Parisien libéré
1964
The print counterpart to the televised hoax: Le Parisien libéré reported the Eiffel Tower would be relocated because of structural deterioration and prohibitive upkeep costs, a story RTF then carried in its Journal de Paris. It caused genuine public alarm and was picked up internationally. RTBF notes an antecedent, in the 1950s France Soir announced the tower would be dismantled and lent to Greece.
