Gold rush scene engraved for a popular world history

The illustration appeared in Ellis and Horne's multi-volume The story of the greatest nations, published in New York in 1913, and derives from work by the artist William de la Montagne Cary. It shows the California gold rush as it was pictured for readers two generations after the event.
