Interior of a Chinatown temple to Guan Yu
1879
An engraved plate from The Pacific Tourist, a transcontinental railroad guide edited by Henry T. Williams and published in New York. The illustration takes visitors inside one of Chinatown's Chinese temples, a fixture of the guidebook itinerary for travellers arriving by rail. The San Francisco Public Library digitised the copy this plate comes from.
