An ILWU member recounts the Big Strike

A recorded account from an International Longshore and Warehouse Union member on the 1934 San Francisco general strike and West Coast maritime strike. The strike produced the coastwide contract and the jointly run hiring hall with a union-selected dispatcher, which was the point of the walkout. The ILWU itself was formed in 1937, splitting from the ILA under Harry Bridges.
