Looking across the Presidio military reservation
1912
A wide view over the United States military reservation at the Presidio, photographed by R. J. Waters and Co. and published as a plate in John P. Young's two-volume history of San Francisco. The post occupied roughly 1,500 acres at the mouth of the Golden Gate and remained in Army hands until 1994. The book presented it as one of the city's defining institutions.
