Betty Reid Soskin on being Black in the wartime shipyards

Betty Reid Soskin, who worked in a segregated Boilermakers union hall during the war and later became a ranger at the Rosie the Riveter home front park she helped create, speaks about what the shipyards were actually like for Black workers. In 1943 the Boilermakers forced Black Marinship workers into a segregated auxiliary, and over 200 who refused to pay its dues were fired. Recorded in 2016.
