Genthe's lantern slide of the city on earthquake morning
1906
A slide from Arnold Genthe's photographs of San Francisco made on 18 April 1906, the day of the earthquake, filed with his Chinatown work at the Library of Congress. Genthe borrowed a camera after his own was lost and spent the day shooting in the streets as the fires spread. The slide itself was produced sometime between 1906 and his death in 1942.
