Harvey Milk stands in front of the camera shop he ran on Castro Street, photographed in November 1977 as he prepared to take his seat on the Board of Supervisors. The shop doubled as the organising centre for his campaigns and for the neighbourhood's politics. The picture was distributed by the Associated Press.
