Genthe negative exposed in Chinatown on the day of the quake
1906
Another of the frames Arnold Genthe exposed on the day of the earthquake, catalogued by the Library of Congress with his other Chinatown pictures from that date. Genthe photographed with a borrowed camera after his own equipment was lost, working through streets that were being consumed by fire. The negative survives in the Genthe Collection.
