Berlin's longest running DJ on the birth of techno in 1989. The Wall's fall did not start Berlin techno: UFO opened in 1988 in West Berlin and Frankfurt's Technoclub in 1984. What 1989 supplied was space, in ownerless buildings with unclear property titles and no licensing authority in the former East.
