Part of Aldabra

190 moments in this segment.

  1. Aldabra is an isolated and protected sanctuary —a UNESCO World Heritage Site, standing…. as one of the rarest examples of a thriving coral atoll ecosystem. Construction on nearby Assomption Island is set to begin, threatening Aldabra’s delicate ecosystem and endangering one of Earth’s last nearly untouched marine treasures. Losing Aldabra would be devastating not just for the Seychelles, but for us all. I urge you to share this, talk about this and SIGN THE PETITION: http://bit.ly/savealdabra We must act now to protect this global treasure, before it’s too late. 🌍🌊 #SaveAldabra #ProtectOurOceans #GlobalHeritage #AldabraAtRisk Credits:

  23. At COP29, I had the privilege of working on behalf of and to deliver letters to…. At COP29, I had the privilege of working on behalf of @reservaylt and @overstories.earth to deliver letters to Seychelles Ministers. These letters carried a strong message from youth and environmental advocates urging action to halt a hotel development on Assumption Island, a project that threatens fragile ecosystems and unique species. Alongside this, I mobilized young voices to join the call for safeguarding Assumption Island. The collective power of our voices is vital, and I believe change happens when we act together. Let’s keep this momentum alive and make an impact for Seychelles! Why it matters: 🐟🐢🪼 The Seychelles is a treasure trove of biodiversity, home to countless endemic species such as the Seychelles magpie-robin, Aldabra giant tortoise, and Seychelles sheath-tailed bat, found nowhere else in the world. This island nation harbors delicate ecosystems, including coral reefs, mangroves, and unique terrestrial habitats, which are critical for global biodiversity, climate regulation, and local livelihoods. Unchecked development threatens these ecosystems, endangering species and the ecological balance they support. Protecting the Seychelles is about more than preserving its beauty—it’s about safeguarding an irreplaceable part of Earth’s natural heritage for future generations. Add your voice by sharing this message, supporting conservation initiatives, and urging leaders to prioritize biodiversity over short-term development. Together, we can stand for a future where nature and people thrive side by side.

  88. ‘Please help to protect the Aldabra Islands!. ! . The Aldabra Islands are an incredible and unique habitat, which of course have Giant tortoises and so much incredible wildlife on land and in their oceans. 🐢 . But Rosewood Hotels are building on fragile ecosystems and permanently damaging this rare habitat. So we all need to speak out for the people and the wildlife of these incredible islands. 🐋 . Reserva @reservaylt are working with Friends of Aldabra @friendsofaldabra to save the Aldabra Islands 🙏💚 . Rosewood Hotels are building on fragile ecosystems and permanently damaging this rare habitat. 💔 . Giant Aldabra Tortoises are endangered and have already been injured by the construction work.💔 . Construction must stop on Assomption.🙏💚 It’s time to take action! ❤️ Seychellois people and nature deserve justice! . You might know about the amazing work Reserva does, because I’ve been part of Reserva’s Youth Council for a few years now. Being part of Reserva has given me a lot of hope for the future, and an amazing community of young people who are all really passionate about helping the environment.💚 . They created the world’s first youth-funded rainforest reserve in Ecuador, and are working with the @leatherbackproject to create a Youth-supported Marine Protection Area in Panama.💙 . This project is really important too. . We put together some of my ocean artwork to try to get the message across. 💦 . If you can share this, follow @friendsofaldabra and @reservaylt and contact @rosewoodhotels to say Stop Destroying Aldabra!’ 🙏💚 . Hi friends👋 Nish here too☺️ This is such an important message we wanted to share. Hope you’re holding up ok there. We’ve both been under the weather, Benji’s been poorly today and I feel like I’m coming down with it too… But we’re grateful for our cosy home to rest up in, and just wish that everyone had that chance to rest when they need to. Hope you’re keeping as well as possible there. . Sending much love from us both❤️ xx

From Seychelles to the world: THANK YOU. Every signature, every share, every act of care has helped strengthen the movement to protect Aldabra. This is a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved together. The petition was delivered to the former government, but sadly, no action was taken. Today, with a new government in place, we continue to call for meaningful protection of Aldabra and the fragile ecosystems that surround it. The fight isn’t over, and we need your voice more than ever. 🐢 Here’s how you can help: ➡️ Share and like our posts to keep talking about Aldabra 🗣️ Comment ACTION to get a link to our latest @chilli.app actions 🔈 Keep speaking out for Aldabra Every act of care, every voice, every share brings us closer to lasting protection. 115. One year ago, we launched a global campaign to protect the wild beauty of Aldabra and…. her sister island, Assomption. Today, we can finally say it: ACTIVISM WORKS! 💪🎉 Thank you to all of our partners, everyone around the world who stood with us, every Friend of Aldabra, this milestone is yours too. 💚 Every door opened, every share, every digital action taken for Aldabra - it made a real difference: many drops make an ocean and we grew stronger wave after wave! 🇸🇨 After committing to stopping the construction of the Qatari-funded luxury resort, the President of Seychelles has now confirmed that an official Stop Notice has been filed, halting all construction activity. This is a huge milestone for nature, for Seychellois sovereignty, and for everyone who spoke out. This was an extraordinary movement of global solidarity to protect our shared World Heritage. But this isn’t the end. Leaked footage from the past weeks shows half-finished buildings and debris scattered across the island. We still need access, transparency, and a real say in what happens next. Independent access to Assomption for Seychellois and international experts, journalists, conservationists, and communities is critical. Only then can we understand the damage and decide on next steps. As we move forward, it’s crucial that we keep pushing to ensure: 🐢Nature has a seat at the decision-making table 🐋Seychellois voices remain front and centre. 🦀International attention and institutions help maintain pressure and accountability Let’s keep working, collaborating, supporting each other for Nature. 🌟🪸🐋🐠🐢🦎🦋🦀 Comment ACTION to get a link to all our latest @chilli.app actions! #ProtectAldabra #ProtectAssomption #Seychelles #FriendsOfAldabra

  118. Seychellois, we want to hear from YOU.. We have all heard - and discussed - the options presented so far for Assomption but we want to know what kind of future you envision for the island? A few of you have shared some idea with us already - from leaving the island wild to having a research station for Seychellois students, to re-establishing a Seychellois coast guard base. We’d love to hear your vision for Assomption in the comments. 💡✨🧭🔭 #ProtectAssomption #ProtectAldabra #Seychelles #FriendsofAldabra

Here are some recent behind-the-scenes moments: 1. The view from one of the private residential villas on Assomption on the north-west tip of the island. The base structure is complete. The impact of nighttime lighting on turtles and other wildlife seems to have been totally ignored in the design phase of the development. 🧱 2. A panoramic view of the beach on Assomption. 189. Show up at the Grand Police EIA meeting on 9 July. This reel went out with no caption at all. In it Victoria Duthil speaks to camera over aerial footage of Grand Police, Takamaka, holding up an email from the EIA secretariat: a stakeholders meeting and site visit for a proposed tourism development on Parcels T574 and T575, Thursday 9 July 2026 at 08:30 at the Takamaka Community Centre, part of a Class 1 Environmental Impact Assessment still in its consultation phase. She is telling Seychellois to turn up and be counted. They did — the campaign posted from that community centre the next day.
  190. Today we went to the Takamaka Community Centre with a clear message: STOP DESTROYING…. OUR ISLANDS. ❌‼️ We were there to make it known from the very beginning that we strongly oppose the proposed luxury hotel, resort and marina at Police Bay, Mahé. Today marks the start of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process. This is the moment to pay attention. This is the moment to speak up. We must make it absolutely clear to both the developers and the Government that this project does not have our support. The public meeting will be announced soon. When it is, we need every voice in the room. Don’t sit this one out. This is our opportunity to defend a place that belongs to every Seychellois. 🔈 We’ve been here before. We watched developments like Assomption Island move forward despite widespread public concern. We watched the systems, processes and institutions fail us. We cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Seychellois deserve better. We deserve genuine participation in decisions that shape our islands, our environment and our future, not consultation as a box-ticking exercise. Enough is enough. If we fail to act now, we risk losing the last truly wild places that define Mahe. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. Future generations deserve the chance to experience the same untouched landscapes that we inherited. Will you stand with us? Will you come to the public meeting and help protect Police Bay? Together, our voices are stronger. #ProtectSeychelles #ProtectPoliceBay #ProtectAssomption #ProtectAldabra
