- — A UNESCO World Heritage site in the Indian Ocean and home to over 400 endemic species,… (1/4). 🎧 A UNESCO World Heritage site in the Indian Ocean and home to over 400 endemic species, the Aldabra Atoll, is on the brink of destruction. A proposed luxury development has threatened its fragile ecosystem, and despite scientific arguments and official interventions, nothing has stopped the Seychelloix government from proceeding with this project. Nothing seemed to get their attention. In the end, it wasn’t data or diplomacy that began turning the tide for Aldabra, it was storytelling. 🎙️ Today’s guests, Celina Chien, conservationist, journalist, and founder of Overstories, and Victoria Duthil, a Seyhelloix scientist-turned-advocate dedicated to protecting her home’s biodiversity have both been instrumental in the Friends of Aldabra movement, which has harnessed the power of narratives to inspire action. 💡 In this new podcast episode, we’re exploring the intersection of storytelling, culture, and conservation. How often have cold facts failed to move you, yet a story changed everything? Why does that happen? How can you use storytelling as a force for change? And how can young, powerful voices shape the future of conservation? 🔗 Link in bio! No matter the outcome, our commitment remains: to safeguard Assomption and Aldabra for generations to come. #ProtectAssomption #ProtectAldabra #Seychelles #FriendsofAldabra

- — Thank you to for featuring our interview from the Presidential Delegation visit to…. Thank you to @sbc.sc for featuring our interview from the Presidential Delegation visit to Assomption. We were grateful to be included on this trip. It was an important moment for us to see the island with our own eyes after a year of advocating for its protection. We appreciated the opportunity to witness the reality on the ground. Being there in person was confronting. The scale of construction, and how far it has already progressed, is very different from what anyone can grasp through images alone. As @victoria_duthil responds in the interview, our stance remains that: “Friends of Aldabra is anti–large-scale, destructive harmful development and anti-development that happens opaquely, non-transparently, where Seychellois people don’t fully feel like they are able to be included in the decision process.” Here is what continues to guide us: 🦈 We oppose large-scale, destructive development that could harm Assomption and, by extension, Aldabra. 🦋 We stand for transparency and inclusive decision-making, so Seychellois voices are genuinely heard. We are conscious that there are many different perspectives within Seychellois society. 🐢 Friends of Aldabra is and has always been apolitical. 🧭 Our compass is simple: Nature. Assomption. Aldabra. Friends of Aldabra remains committed to dialogue, accountability, and working towards a future that protects Assomption and Aldabra. #ProtectAssomption #ProtectAldabra #Seychelles #FriendsofAldabra
- — In 2025, we made headlines.. 📰🤳✍️👨💻👩💻 Thank you to the journalists and media outlets who chose to put a spotlight on Aldabra and Assomption in 2025. At a time when nature is increasingly under pressure from powerful interests, the media plays a vital role: informing the public, flagging risks, and holding decision-makers to account. The Friends of Aldabra campaign is time-sensitive and getting media coverage has helped make a real difference. Journalists: if you’re interested in covering what’s happening on Assomption and Aldabra, we’d love to connect: DM us or email friendsofaldabra@gmail.com 📷 Background photo provided by Allen Commettant

Thank you to @todayinseychelles for these two articles. 💬”Given the environmental breaches, lack of due process, and governance failures, we believe the project should not continue. This would give Seychelles an opportunity to change the narrative and develop a more innovative, sustainable, and conservation-focused vision for Assomption and Aldabra.” 💬According to Ms. Duthil, the campaign’s primary mandate is the protection of Assomption and Aldabra. “Everything that we do as part of the campaign, our mandate, if you will, is the protection of Assomption and Aldabra,” she said. “Anything that contributes to the protection of Assomption and Aldabra is something that we’ll consider.” #ProtectAssomption #ProtectAldabra #Seychelles
