Steal a Brainrot arrived on Roblox in May 2025 and became one of the biggest games on the platform, which turned free-floating memes into collectable property with market value. Fortnite followed with official skins in 2026, to a mixed reception. This is the point where a joke acquired an economy, and where the question of who owned the joke stopped being theoretical.
