The turn from describing the world to arguing about it. The usual account has him publicly quiet until the mid 2000s, and that is too strong: he was talking about the natural world being in grave danger in 1980. What is fair is that his explicit climate advocacy is late, which he concedes himself, and that the films long showed animals without showing what was happening to them.
