On 24 July 2010, at the Love Parade in Duisburg, a crowd crush occurred on the single ramp and tunnel that served as the only entrance and exit to the festival grounds. Twenty-one people died and more than 650 were injured. It remains one of the worst tragedies in the history of mass events in Germany.
  37. The end of the Love Parade. In the days after, the organiser announced that the Love Parade would never be held again. After twenty-one years — from 150 people on the Kurfürstendamm to a million-and-a-half under the Siegessäule — the parade was over.
