Day 9 in our Aldabra Christmas Series. (1/2)

Day 9 in our Aldabra Christmas Series. Today’s animal is the nudibranch! 🎨 These tiny sea slugs are famous for their vibrant colors: from bright orange to vivid blues and purples often with a fluorescent glow, earning them common names including ‘dragon’ and ‘clown’. 🐽Their name means ‘naked gill’, referring to the breathing apparatus on the outside of their soft bodies. 🐌 Some nudibranchs steal stinging cells from prey to defend themselves. 🥗 Nudibranch’s colours are primarily affected by their diet. The pigments are absorbed and concentrated in their tissues, allowing them to match the color of their surroundings and achieve effective camouflage. Stay tuned for a new species tomorrow! 📸 Image credit: @evileyelander 🎶 Song by @joe_samy_official / @s_chlochlo
