Day 5 in our Aldabra Christmas Series! Today’s animal is the Hermit Crab 🦀 🐚 When a new, bigger shell appears, several crabs will form a queue from largest to smallest, and each crab moves into the next-largest empty shell, creating a “vacancy chain” where everyone upgrades their home! ♻ Sometimes shells are scarce, so they’ve adapted to use material such as discarded bottle caps and plastic containers for shelter. 🍓 On Aldabra, theres is a species of hermit crab which is bright red, earning it the nickname “Strawberry Hermit Crab”.
