Meet the potato grouper (Epinephelus tukula) 🥔🐟 🪸These fish are among the largest coral reef predators, they can weigh up to 100kg, and can reach 2 metres long! These giants can also live up to 40 years. They get their name from the big, potato-shaped blotches scattered across their pale bodies. ‼️They are territorial and aggressive, and feed on a variety of fish and invertebrates. 🎣The potato grouper is a slow growing species, meaning that they take longer to reach sexual maturity and are able to reproduce. This means that their populations are vulnerable to fishing pressures, which is why they are a protected species on Aldabra.
