Today, @victoriaduthil and @seychellesatheart met with President Herminie at State House🇸🇨 We discussed the urgent need for a comprehensive, one-year biodiversity assessment on Assomption Island, which must be completed before any decision is taken regarding the Stop Notice. We welcomed the President’s agreement that this level of scientific rigour is essential. A one-year assessment is essential to capture seasonal changes, breeding cycles and migratory patterns. This is not a formality, but the scientific foundation needed to understand Assomption and guide future decisions. Friends of Aldabra has proposed a multi-stakeholder assessment, overseen by a mixed committee of Seychellois and international experts, with civil society represented. The aim is to provide the Government of Seychelles with a strong, transparent and defensible scientific basis for decisions affecting Assomption and Aldabra.
