Day 11 in our Aldabra Christmas Series. Today’s animal is the Malagasy Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis bernieri). 🪶 This large white ibis is found only on the west coast of Madagascar and Aldabra. 🌳 They are unique forest dwellers with striking green/blue crests, foraging by plunging their beak deep into the mud. 🔈 These birds use loud, far-carrying calls to communicate, and often roost in groups, sometimes with other species. 🍴They typically eat crustaceans and invertebrates but occasionally also eat frogs, reptiles, and even young birds! 🌍 They are similar to - but slightly smaller than - the African Sacred Ibis.
