Who can protect Aldabra?

Who can protect Aldabra? 🌍🐢 The Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF) was created to safeguard this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its mission: strict biosecurity and independent protection. But @sif_seychelles’s stance has shifted. Once opposed to development on Assomption Island, it now appears to be aligned with the developers as it takes on the biosecurity officer role on Assomption island. SIF’s independence is in question. Its board is appointed by the President, making it vulnerable to political pressure. Instead of standing up to harmful development plans on nearby Assomption Island, SIF has been drawn into the project, taking on a role that risks turning it from protector to facilitator. This includes new reports suggestion that they are turning a blind eye to developer wishes to import soil and plants to the island which brings huge risk of invasive species. If those tasked with defending Aldabra are silenced, who is left to safeguard it? Well...that’s partly why we exist! But we can’t do it alone! Aldabra deserves better. SIF must return to its original mission: protect Aldabra – no matter the cost.
