Day 7 in our Aldabra Christmas Series. Today’s animal is the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark (Sphyrna lewini). 🌍 They use Earth’s magnetic field to help them navigate the ocean, using specialised electroreceptors. 🔨 They’re named for the scalloped shape of their hammer-like heads which gives them enhanced vision… 🐟…and helps them pin stingrays to the seafloor. 🙈 Despite their impressive size and predatory nature, they are generally quite shy. Stay tuned for a new species “next year”;) 📸 Image credits: Slide 1, 3 and 4: Simon Watkins Slide 2: @kogia_org 🎶 Song by @joe_samy_official / @s_chlochlo
