It was the same year that, due to a lucky coincidence, we were invited to play a late-night set at Mayan Warrior. Within moments, we fell in love with the art-car and all people surrounding it. We had a kind of musical epiphany there. So when we were formally invited to come back this year, playing a Thursday sunset concert, we didn't even have to think for a second. We were all hyped like crazy while at the same time feeling very humble about it. Visiting and playing at Burning Man, especially at this esteemed art-car, is something that really stood out in our lives so far. We will cherish this memory forever. It was second time we played our hybrid live-set, but definitely not the last. 10. 2020 — Dreaming of Home: the year Black Rock City did not rise. Made in the summer of 2020 after Black Rock City was called off, this edit gathers playa footage from earlier burns as a stand-in for the gathering that did not happen. The filmmaker frames it explicitly as something to hold onto in a year without a burn, and it stands as a record of how the community marked the cancellation.

Burning Man co-founder Larry Harvey wrote the 10 Principles in 2004 as guidelines for the newly-formed Regional Network. They were crafted not as a dictate of how people should be and act, but as a reflection of the community’s ethos and culture as it had organically developed since the event’s inception. Radical Inclusion Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community. Gifting Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift-giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value. Decommodification In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience. Radical Self-reliance Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on their inner resources. Radical Self-expression Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient. Communal Effort Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction. Civic Responsibility We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. Because unauthorised flying is restricted on the playa, permitted aerial passes like this are one of the few ways the full pentagon of the city street grid is recorded from above.

First 15 minutes from Dust & Illusions, the only movie that looks a the entire history of Burning Man, starting a decade before the event even started. What was the context behind Burning Man. Was it thought out from the beginning as this event that would become world-renowned? Larry Harvey would say he had the idea and from that he was the reason for Burning Man to exist. He created Burning Man after watching Wicker Man. And then people from the San Francisco Suicide Club and the San Francisco Cacophony Society invited the Burning Man sculpture to come to their event on the Black Rock desert. Burning Man isn't what it seems to be. Today it's a massive event, with cool arts whipped by regular giant dust storms in the Black Rock desert. But 30 years ago, it was an underground event put together by renegade artists in the middle of San Francisco. Law enforcement didn't like that, so with the help of the Cacophony Society, they moved it to an unforgiving wind-swept dry lake bed in the Nevada desert. It slowly changed to become the $20+ million event it now is. This film looks at how decadence turned into organized chaos, and how politics might have replaced philosophies. The whole Burning Man story.

I brought the 4K camera out this year and shot everything in slow motion with only my 85mm Sony lens. We arrived early Sunday morning to find an open camping spot around 3:26 & H. The majority of the video was shot on the playa, showcasing art, sculptures, art cars, dust storms, etc. during the sunset and sunrise. Once the rainstorm hit on Friday night, I didn't take my camera out again until Sunday, which means I missed recording the mud man that was picked up by international news outlets. We left a couple of hours before noon on Monday, which means we missed this year's man burning. Favorite art this year was either Elder Mother by Charles Gadeken or the temple(temple of the heart) by Ela Madej & Reed Finlay. This year, I followed the story of one art piece on the playa created by Eli Rogers, the man who locked himself in a jail cell for the week.
