Came to Tirana for a holiday, stayed for the revolution. 🇦🇱✊ Never thought I’d find myself marching in a massive anti-government protest miles away from home, and feel safer than I ever have. We stumbled into the “Flamingo Revolution,” a citizen-led movement fighting to save the protected Vjosa-Narta wetlands and Sazan Island from becoming a luxury resort for Jared Kushner. Back home in India, the word “protest” brings up trauma for me, memories of college friends facing lathi charges and tear gas just for speaking up. I chickened out back then. I stopped showing up. But here? No barricades, no brutality, just thousands of voices chanting “Albania is not for sale.” It feels surreal to stand here without fear.
