The publisher's disclaimer from Hall Caine's 'The Woman of Knockaloe', later reissued as 'Barbed Wire'. Knockaloe Camp near Peel (Purt ny hInshey) opened in November 1914 and held around 23,000 internees with some 3,000 guards, on an island whose whole population was then about 50,000.
