Waymo opens freeway rides to the public

Waymo began carrying public passengers on freeways in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix, opening the service to early-access riders first. In the Bay Area the change merged the service area into a single zone of more than 260 square miles running on US-101 and I-280, reaching down the Peninsula. It marked the point at which the robotaxi stopped being confined to the city core.
