Arnold Genthe photographed the two groups of women in the same frame somewhere in San Francisco's Chinatown between 1896 and 1906. Such street encounters were a recurring subject for him, and the pictures document the quarter as an ordinary part of the city rather than a spectacle. Held by the Library of Congress.
