Theodore Roosevelt's Great White Fleet steaming out to sea
1908
The battleships of the Great White Fleet, sent around the world by President Theodore Roosevelt, are seen under way with their funnels smoking. The fleet's Pacific passage drew enormous crowds to the San Francisco headlands in 1908. The panoramic negative is part of the Presidio collection held in NPGallery.
