Newspaper engraving of the Mary Ellen Pleasant and Bell mansion

An 1892 newspaper illustration of the San Francisco mansion where Mary Ellen Pleasant lived with the family of financier Thomas Bell. Pleasant, an entrepreneur and abolitionist, financed and ran the household and was later dragged through the press over the Bell estate. The image was clipped from a newspaper of 17 October 1892; the artist is unrecorded.
