The mock forty-niner camp at the Midwinter Exposition

The California Midwinter International Exposition, staged in Golden Gate Park, included a reconstructed gold rush mining camp as one of its attractions. It presented the 1849 rush as heritage to fairgoers barely forty-five years after the event.
