How a Kaiser in-house poster became a labour icon

Historian Lincoln Cushing traces the Westinghouse-era poster now universally known as Rosie the Riveter from obscure workplace notice to political shorthand. The Rosie the Riveter Trust recorded the talk in 2022. Cushing's point cuts against the image: the real Richmond job was overwhelmingly welding, and welders were over forty per cent female by 1944.
