Scow schooners unloading hay at the Third Street channel wharf

The scow schooner Annie L. lies at the San Francisco hay wharf with a full deckload, other loaded scows crowding around her, and the schooner Paul and Willie berthed inside. Their shallow draft let them load at river landings and sloughs no other craft could reach, carrying hay from around the bay into the city. The Annie L. was built at Hunters Point in 1900 by Emil Munder.
