People spread across the tram tracks of a main artery closed for the parade, with a stationary tram and overhead wires above them. Shutting Zurich's tram network across the lake basin for a day is one of the largest operational costs the city carries. The status of the event as a demonstration has long shielded the organisers from paying it.
