Bay and Abrams Attach Variety announces on 1 March 2024 that Michael Bay and J.J. Abrams have attached to develop Skibidi Toilet as a feature film, television series, and game franchise. The deal is between Bay's production company and Invisible Narratives, run by former Paramount president Adam Goodman, which has acquired the rights from Skibidi creator Alexey Gerasimov. Gerasimov, working as DaFuq!?Boom!, began the YouTube Shorts series in February 2023 from Georgia. By early 2024 the series has 65 billion cumulative views. 02. The Brainrot Adaptation Era The Skibidi deal is announced months after Kane Parsons signs a similar deal with A24 to direct a Backrooms feature based on his 2022 short film series. The 2024 cycle establishes that algorithmically-emerged short-form internet horror and absurdism is now major-studio acquisition territory. Whether the films ever ship is an open question.
