Loreline — a collaborative documentary and storytelling platform

Loreline (loreline.live) is a collaborative storytelling and documentary media platform. Anyone can upload footage, photos, and clips and assemble them into a “loreline” — a living visual archive that plays back as a chronological documentary, with scenes ordered by the real date they happened. Public lorelines can be contributed to by many people, so the archive evolves over time.

On Loreline you can create your own documentary, browse and watch public documentaries across topics like history, music, sports, film, and culture, contribute footage to open community archives, and embed any public loreline into a blog or article. Explore public documentaries by topic at https://loreline.live/explore.

What is Loreline?

Loreline (loreline.live) is a collaborative storytelling and documentary platform where anyone can upload footage, photos, and clips and assemble them into a "loreline" — a living visual archive that plays back as a chronological documentary, with scenes ordered by the real date they happened.

How does Loreline work?

Each loreline is a timeline of scenes (photos, video clips, or embedded media such as YouTube). Scenes are placed by their real capture date, so the finished loreline plays back as a chronological documentary. Multiple people can contribute to the same public loreline, so the archive grows and evolves over time.

What can you do on Loreline?

You can create your own documentary from scratch, browse and watch public documentaries on topics like history, music, sports, film, and culture, contribute footage to open community archives, and embed any public loreline into a blog or article.

Is Loreline the same as the open-source interactive-fiction language?

No. loreline.live is a collaborative documentary and storytelling media platform for building chronological visual archives. It is unrelated to any same-named programming or interactive-fiction language.

Terms & Conditions

The terms that govern your use of Loreline.

Last updated: 4 June 2026 · Beta — provided free of charge.

1. About these terms

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Loreline (the "Service"), a collaborative platform for building, browsing, and sharing visual timelines ("lorelines") composed of footage, photos, audio, and embedded media.

Loreline is currently offered as a free, non-commercial beta. It is operated on an informal basis and is not yet provided by an incorporated legal entity, nor is any fee charged for its use. By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes take effect when the revised Terms are posted at this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least the age of majority in your place of residence, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian, to use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement.

Spectators may explore and play any public loreline without an account. To engage, contribute footage, or create your own lorelines you must sign in. Authentication is provided through third-party identity providers (currently Google). You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your access credentials secure.

3. Beta service — provided "as is"

The Service is experimental and provided strictly on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any content, data, footage, or loreline will be preserved, available, or free from loss. Features may change, be suspended, or be removed at any time without notice. You use the Service at your own risk.

4. Your content and the licence you grant

You retain ownership of, and all intellectual-property rights in, the footage, photos, audio, text, and other material you upload or contribute ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership of Your Content.

By contributing Your Content, you grant Loreline a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, reformat, publish, publicly display, distribute, and otherwise use Your Content for the purpose of operating, providing, developing, and promoting the Service — including displaying Your Content within the lorelines it belongs to and using it in connection with the wider Service. This licence continues for as long as Your Content remains on the Service and for a reasonable period thereafter to allow for technical removal from backups.

You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights, licences, consents, and permissions to Your Content and to grant the licence above, and that Your Content (and our use of it as permitted) does not and will not infringe or violate the rights of any third party or any law.

5. Embedded and third-party content

Lorelines may incorporate media embedded from third-party platforms (including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and X), displayed through those platforms’ official embedding interfaces. Such embedded media is hosted, served, and controlled entirely by the originating platform and its uploader. Loreline does not host, store, own, or claim any rights in embedded third-party content; it merely references and displays it via the provider’s public embed mechanism.

Your use of embedded content is also subject to the terms and policies of the originating platform. Embedded content may change, be made private, or be removed by its owner or platform at any time, and Loreline has no control over and accepts no responsibility for its availability, accuracy, legality, or content. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Loreline disclaims all liability arising from third-party embedded content.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to upload, contribute, or distribute any content, or to engage in any conduct, that:

  • infringes any copyright, trademark, publicity, privacy, or other right of any person;
  • is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, or sexually exploitative, or depicts minors inappropriately;
  • contains malware, or attempts to gain unauthorised access to, disrupt, or overload the Service or its infrastructure;
  • misrepresents your identity or your rights in any content;
  • scrapes, harvests, or bulk-extracts content or data from the Service except as expressly permitted.

7. Copyright and takedowns

We respect intellectual-property rights and expect users to do the same. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, contact us at the address below with: a description of the work and the allegedly infringing material and its location on the Service; your contact details; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised; and a statement, made under penalty of perjury where applicable, that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.

Send notices to info@loreline.live. We will review valid notices and may remove or disable access to the content at issue, and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

8. Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Loreline and the individuals operating it from and against any and all claims, demands, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) Your Content; (b) your use of the Service; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will Loreline or the individuals operating it be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits, goodwill, or business, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and given that the Service is provided free of charge during beta, the aggregate liability of Loreline and the individuals operating it for any and all claims relating to the Service is limited to one hundred (100) US dollars.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service, or remove any content, at any time and for any reason, including for actual or suspected violation of these Terms, with or without notice. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including content licence, indemnification, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

11. Data and privacy

To provide the Service we process limited personal data, including: account information from your chosen identity provider (such as your name, email, and avatar via Google sign-in); the content you upload and the lorelines you create or interact with; and basic technical and usage information (such as device, log, and analytics data) used to operate and improve the Service. We use this data to authenticate you, deliver and maintain the Service, and protect against abuse.

During beta we aim to collect no more than is necessary to run the Service, and we do not sell your personal data. Full details of what we collect, why, and who we share it with are set out in our Privacy Policy at /privacy.

12. Dispute resolution and governing law

The parties will first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at the address below. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, you and Loreline agree that, to the fullest extent permitted by law, the dispute will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and that any proceeding will be conducted only on an individual basis and not as a class, collective, or representative action. You waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action, to the extent permitted by law.

A governing-law jurisdiction will be specified once Loreline is operated by an incorporated entity. Until then, these Terms are intended to be interpreted and enforced to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

13. Contact

Questions about these Terms, or copyright and content notices, can be sent to info@loreline.live.
