Voeltzkow Spends a Month on the Atoll

The German zoologist Alfred Voeltzkow worked on Aldabra for just over a month, making the first known collection of Entomostraca from the atoll and adding to the reef-geology picture. His Indian Ocean work fed straight into the long argument over how atolls form. The chart he published from that visit keys three symbols: Mr Spurs’ settlement, where he found the tortoises, and the anchorage of his own ship.
