W. L. Abbott Collects on Aldabra

The American naturalist William Louis Abbott made the first of the four great collecting expeditions to the atoll, gathering the flora and fauna material that put Aldabra on the scientific map. The endemic sacred ibis of the atoll, Threskiornis bernieri abbotti, carries his name.
