Parliament Blocks the Assumption Island Base

A revised India–Seychelles agreement signed in January 2018 collapsed when the opposition-controlled National Assembly said it would not ratify it, with proximity to the Aldabra World Heritage site among the stated objections. In 2020 the then opposition leader Wavel Ramkalawan declared the agreement dead — the second time public pressure stopped a project on Assumption.
