The Royal Society Memorandum Against the Airfield

The Council of the Royal Society told the Ministry of Defence in a twenty-three-page memorandum that Aldabra was "one of the last elevated reef islands remaining essentially unaltered by man", and that an airfield would cause considerable changes to its animal and plant life. It was an unusually direct intervention by the Society in a live defence procurement decision.
