Aldabra Becomes a Ramsar Wetland

The atoll's roughly 2,000 hectares of mangrove and its 200 km² shallow lagoon were listed under the Ramsar Convention, adding a wetland-specific protection layer on top of the Special Reserve and World Heritage designations. Aldabra now carries about as many protective labels as any place on Earth.
